Get Naked

Published March 21, 2014 by lesleyhope

Hi friends! I’ve been slacking, I’m sorry. I actually have had the flu for the past couple of days. So I knew when I went into the bathroom at 10AM yesterday and looked at the ghost with the washed out skin and dull eyes staring back in the mirror, I should go home (side note, I had done the exact same makeup routine I usually do, I even highlighted to perk up my eyes) . Moral of the story, if you’re sick, putting on makeup will not help. Your body will fight that all off and melt your makeup to say “LOOK GIRLFRIEND, YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM IS WORKING OVERTIME, CAN YOU GIVE US A BREAK NOW?” So I did. I gave my immune system Christmas early and slept for 13 hours. My body is still a little angry at me for going too long without stopping, but it’s getting better.

On to the next one. I’ve got 2 products to review and swatch for you today. The beloved NAKED palettes from Urban Decay. I don’t have the 2nd one only because it is, in my opinion, the weakest of the 3 in terms of different colors- but that’s only because I had the first one. If you don’t have the first, compare 1 and 2 to see which colors look better on you but I wouldn’t get both. 1 is warmer tones and 2 are more silvers and cooler tones. 3 are rose golds and taupes which I really enjoy blending and working with. Blondes have the best luck with pink/rose tones in my opinion.

The ever famous Urban Decay Naked and Naked 3 palettes.

Let me just compare the packaging of both quickly- Naked 3 comes in a sleek, plastic palette that snaps shut. Naked 1 is in a cardboard with felt and a magnetic shut-case. Naked 3, you win in that department. They both came with cool brushes that were duel ended but I lost them both. And they were synthetic, kind of cheapies. They’re nice if you’re just getting into makeup but I don’t pay too much mind to them.

Now the colors… let’s start with the first 7 of Naked 1 (mainly because I didn’t plan out how many I wanted to do before I started coloring all over myself).

  • Virgin- a shimmery pearl. Great for highlighting under the brow.
  • Sin- a warm, champagne.
  • Naked- a medium, matte brown. I find this color to be the most disappointing out of the entire palette. It’s hard to pick up and doesn’t blend well.
  • Sidecar-a shimmered brownish with a little bit of red undertone and lots of sparkles. Love this on my lid for a night out.
  • Buck- a deeper matte brown. It’s the better version of Naked.
  • Half Baked- true coppery beige. This is one of UD’s best sellers as a single
  • Smog- shimmer bronze.
  • Darkhorse- a chocolate brown with a warm, red undertone.
  • Toasted- medium taupe with more of a pink finish.
  • Hustle- a darker plum based taupe.
  • Creep- dark blue-black with little teal and silver speckles in it. Not one of my favorites in the palette. Difficult to blend out.
  • Gunmetal- beautiful blue-based gray. On the skin, it almost looks like it has a brown undertone. Reminds me of MAC’s Blue Brown pigment which is one of my FAVS!

Ok so take a long look at the colors above. I think the main thing they all have in common is warm, brownish/reddish undertones. UD hit a home run with this baby. But then… they came out with another beauty. Not Naked 2. PASS. NAKED 3!!!

  • Strange- pale, neutral pink. I was slightly underwhelmed until I tried it. It’s very smooth and almost acts as a silky finish- not a highlighter.
  • Dust- pink metallic shimmer with micro glitter. The glitter falls so be ready to clean under your eyes after you apply this one. But it’s very pigmented and glittery for some pizazz.
  • Burnout- light peachy satin.
  • Limit- light dusty rose matte.
  • Buzz- metallic rose with gold undertones.
  • Trick- coppery pink with silvery and metallic sparkle.
  • Nooner- medium pinkish brown matte. The darker version to Limit.
  • Liar- a medium mauve shimmer.
  • Factory- a brownish pink satin with red undertones.
  • Mugshot- a medium warm taupe shimmer.
  • Darkside- a cool-toned purple taupe with a pearl finish
  • Blackheart- Smokey matte black-red with red glitter. One of my favorites in this collection. Obviously, not an everyday color but a unique color that you can blend with lots of others to create the tone you want since it is matte with red undertones.

I love both of these palettes a lot. I do like Naked 3 better- it has many colors that suit my skin tone better with the pinks.

Next on my list to blog not in a million weeks about… colors for spring! Yeah yeah so I’ve already talked your ears off about Radiant Orchid but there are so many other colors that are must haves for THIS spring in particular since I feel that it might never come…. sign. I will be pale and dark rooted for eternity if the sun doesn’t start working it’s magic.

OPI’s Don’t Talk Bach To Me. It’s the Germany collection and it’s dedicated to my lovely Spartans and March Madness. GO GREEN!

Until next time lovers,

No Makeup Monday

Published February 18, 2014 by lesleyhope

Hello beauties! BIG POST TONIGHT! Finally right? I fell quite hard tonight on my tush running to the bus. How embarrassing! Not that that has anything at all to do with this post but I thought I would share because I needed to get it off my chest. Okay. There’s my post secret for the night.

I was thinking on something I could do this entire week and share it with you guys… I decided on a no-makeup week. Now, let’s just clarify what this means. It’s the no makeup, makeup look. It’s popular right now with all the metallic and “naked” colors out there (maybe we should be thanking Urban Decay for started the Naked trend). I’ve always been one to love the nude tones. A nude lip, a nude-ish eye, muted barely there blush. Then I thought… I’ve never worn all together. I’ve always gone with one and not the others. So I took the challenge upon myself to go this entire week wearing makeup- but nude makeup for a no-makeup look.

It’s harder than you would think! Especially for me, someone who loves her radiant orchid! You do still have to use products, but just be more aware of the finishes, the shades and the tones to ensure they all are very natural. I also mixed it up with a couple drugstore products that you can pick up at Walgreens.

I used the following today:

20140217_201344

L’oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder for my primer. I have the shade 318 Natural Buff. I use it as a foundation on days where I’m just looking for the bare minimum coverage (like on a Sunday when I have to leave just to go to the grocery store and I want to even out my skintone without getting dolled up). This stuff is great. It really is a liquid that is SO smooth and light when you rub it on it feels like a powder. Non greasy and very quick drying. $10

Lush Colour Supplement for my foundation in Light Yellow. A new product for me. I read a little about Lush’s skin care products and so I popped into Macy’s to see for myself. All natural ingredients (smells great as well). It looks a little scary when you first put it on your skin but it is so blendable which is always a plus when I’m looking for a foundation. The great thing about this is, you can use it as a concealer, foundation, and pair it with moisturizer for a tint. This is $16.95 and comes in 4 different colors. When the specialist helped me, she told me I could use either Light Yellow or Light Pink with my skin. I chose this one as it would probably be easier to transition into summer with. FYI… 12 + hours later and even after I have worked out, this is the best foundation I’ve used by far. It doesn’t run, it doesn’t make my skin feel gross or greasy now. I’m supremely impressed.

Benefit Bronzer/Blush Dallas on my cheekbones. This is fairly new. I had been looking at all my bronzers thinking about how much I needed a tan- none of them transitioned with my fair skin into the winter abyss! I haven’t been a big user of Benefit but wanted to try it out, and this color was perfect for a winter look. It’s a natural dusty, plum color which I love because it serves as a great bronzer for winter OR a little pop of color once you have a tan going in the summer. It isn’t matte but it’s not quite “shimmery” either.  It’s also one of Benefit’s most popular selling product and I know why! $28 so… definitely another splurge.

20140217_220015

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light. This is a pricey item but I love this product. There’s 6 shades, this is the lightest one. I use it on my t zone to give my skin a beautiful finish and highlight a little bit. This powder gives skin another dimension. I was going to call it a finishing powder but it’s so much more. It perfects the way light bounces on the skin almost- really amazing, love it. Splurge but worth it! ($45 at Sephora).

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Darkside. This is the Naked 3 version (each Naked palette has a version of the double ended pencil). The other color on this pencil is Blackheart which I have also swatched for reference. If you don’t already know, I am OBSESSED with Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencils. They’re my FAVORITE. They are so pigmented, so creamy, long lasting and come in a rainbow array of colors. This one is $16 but normally they are $19. Darkside is the color on the top. I used this lightly under my bottom eyelash for just enough definition. Darkside is a deep mauve, taupe. Blackheart is a dark burgundy brown with specs of red in it. Both are beautiful, I think Blackheart is a little more unique but it was a little bold for my look.

20140217_201657

Maybelline Great Lash Mascera on my eyes in Blackest Black. I have never spent the big bucks on mascera. Why? Because I can buy this little hott pink baby for $6 and I have ever since highschool. Goes on thick, love the deep pigmented black, doesn’t clump.

L’OREAL Colour Rich Lipstick in 760 Silverstone. I’ve been trying to think how I want to describe this color. It’s a silvery tan with gold tones. Can something be silver AND gold? It has a little shade of each in it, which is why it can look good on anyone. It also goes on very sheer so you do need a few coats to create more color. It’s buff enough to make the cut for “no makeup Monday”. Oh and it’s $8.

Dun dun dun…. the final look is……….

20140217_094454

This! Day 1 of my challenge. I’ll try something new each day and let you guys know about it 🙂 Oh and I completely forgot I used two colors in the Naked 3 palette on my eyes. But as I’m almost done with this post… I will swatch that entire palette later this week because it’s SO PRETTY!

I survived the first day of no makeup week. And I liked it! And I don’t think I looked like a zombie that woke up on the wrong side of the bed 🙂 To conclude for tonight… I’ll leave you guys with one nail swatch:

20140217_210155

Coney Island Cotten Candy by none other than OPI. It’s a light peachy light pink. Reminds me a little of Bubble Bath but slightly more warm tones. Pretty huh?

Okay I hope you all enjoyed tonight. I’ll let you know how my butt feels tomorrow (I think I have a bruise).

If you guys have suggestions on what I should blog about let me know! I won’t be blogging much this week because I am booked solid… with dates! Imagine that! I am getting back into the game and this week starts it all. But I never kiss and tell.

Kisses,

Lesley Hope
