NYE Essentials

Published December 31, 2014 by lesleyhope

I’m going to be the first to tell you that I’ve done it ALL on NYE before. I’m talking like fake blonde extensions, 5 inch strappy heels, dresses that are too short, dresses with no back, spray tan, lots of bronzer, and of course… too much alcohol. As I’ve grown up a little and matured in the past years, I wanted to write a list of what are REALLY essentials this NYE.

  • Friends. Be with people that you want to be with. People that make you laugh and have fun. I’ve gone around the block too many times and have spent NYE at parties where I honestly don’t LIKE many of the people there and I’m just there… to be there.IMG_20141101_233408

<– Me and two of my best friends

  • Something warm to wear. As I mentioned previously, I’ve done it all and frozen my butt off. Was it worth it? Maybe at the time or so I thought. Is it worth it now? Hell no. Granted I live in one of the coldest cities everrr right now but I am not trying to challenge a -5 degree wind chill- now or ever again! I will probably rock some black skinnies tonight with a top, blazer, high boots and my long North Face jacket. Not to mention my hat and gloves… sorry hair!
  • Glitter. Ok so I’m going to concede on the glitter makeup to makeup for the non-giltter dress of the past. Something very simple is appropriate. I am going to do a glitter winged liner look tonight. I have been perfecting my winged liner for the past 6 months and I finally can do it on average 4 days a week without messing up. That’s a decent average (4 days out of the normal 5) compared to what it was when I started getting serious about the wings (my average back then was about .5 days out of 5 because I could get one wing right one day, then the other wing would just look atrocious).

I am going to use a few of my MAC pigments tonight along with a mixing medium to create this look below:

  • Color! Since I’m going for the more funeral-esque/MAC counter girl outfit tonight (black on black on black- pants, boots, blazer), I will probably wear a pop of color under for my shirt AND put a really fun color on my lips that I usually would never wear to work for everyday. I’m thinking like a neon pink (Nylon by OCC), a bright lavendar (Hoochie by OCC) OR maybe something just bold like a dark blue (Vain by OCC). The options are endless!

hoochie   Hoochie nylon  Nylon vain Vain

Maybe I’ll add some glitter or MAC pigment on top of those… could be a lip to remember!

  • Last but not least… nails. Gotta go with fun nails. This can be any color, just make sure they’re not naked. I did the dark red for Christmas- Lost on Lombard which was perfect. I’m thinking I’ll do Birthday Babe by OPI which is a fun, metallic silver that I usually also paint for fun events (like my birthday)

Completed! I hope you all have a beautiful New Years. I actually wish that I wasn’t doing ANYTHING. I’m such an introvert that my couch and pajamas sound best to me… but following social norms (and since my cousin is going to be in town), I’ve gotta do what I gotta do. And that is above! Stay safe, don’t spend too much money and don’t drink too much! There’s too much awesome football tomorrow for anyone to be hung over.

With that all being said….

GO GREEN!!!!!!

False Lashes

Published October 14, 2014 by lesleyhope

These are an important aspect of any big event. It’s crazy to think how much they transform your eyes and your face for that matter. No wonder all the youtube/instagram girls wear them all. the. time. Not to mention Kim K, Katy Perry and Twiggy who started the phenomenon! It’s such a difference compared to regular mascara!

I don’t wear falsies on the regular (thank goodness). But I have a few pairs that are just “voluminous” or “natural” looking so I thought I would shake some cobwebs off my skills and wear them a few times this past weekend. I didn’t have a party or anything crazy to go to- I wore them to cocktails with the girls, then to Gone Girl the next day (don’t judge me). I probably was the most fabulous looking chick in that movie theater. Nah, probably not- but I did wear my Nike high tops which are pretty dang bomb. Back to the point- I’ll go through each of the phases and steps to successful falsies.

1. I first put the lashes up to my natural lash line. Normally for me, I always have to cut them with tiny scissors or nail clippers a TINY bit because they are a tad longer than what fits on my own lashes. I didn’t know this at first and would always just try and go for it. Don’t try it, doesn’t work. Clip them if you need to where they fit along your own line.

2. Take both edges of the lash and bend inward to create a “C” shape, and hold for a couple of seconds. This is the easiest way to ensure smooth application and make sure the lashes match the natural curve of your eye.

3. Put on one coat of mascara. Doesn’t have to be crazy- just a normal coat so the lashes can adhere to your own better.

4. Apply the glue that came with your lashes OR you can buy glue such as DUO Eyelash Adhesive. If you have a steady hand, you can squeeze straight from the tube onto the strip. Usually the glue comes out bubbly and streaky for me so an easy trick: put glue on the reverse end of your tweezers and glide it across the strip. Be generous at both the inner and outer corners so the glue won’t unstick when you blink.

5.  So once the glue is lined along the false lash line- wait about 10-20 seconds. I do this just so it gets a little thicker/stickier and makes it easier for it to stick to your lashes.

6. K, ready for the toughest part? You can either use tweezers for this or your own fingers. I prefer tweezers because I personally don’t like touching the false lashes and clumping them. If you’re using your hands, place the lashes on the base of your lashes right on top of your own lashes. Tweezer method: Take your tweezers and pick the falsies up on the opposite side of the strip, right in the center of where they will adhere to your lash line. Place them in the center of your own lash line, as close to the base of your natural lash line as possible but not touching the eyelid. Now, most will have a natural curve to them so they might just fit perfectly on yours without you having to do anything. Great, welcome to the 1% of times that has ever happened to me! The other 99%, I usually have to make sure once the center is in place and not going to go anywhere, take the tweezers, grab hold (lightly) to somewhere to the right or left of the center and push the falsies onto your own lash line. Sometimes I have to hold it there for a few seconds and make sure everything is staying in place. Be light about it and be patient!

7. Once the false lashes are on, they will feel weird if you haven’t worn them before (and even if you have, they always feel a little weird to me, like a wig on my lashes or something). They feel kind of heavy and I always think everyone is staring. If they are staring- it’s probably because your lashes look fantastic. Apply one coat of mascara to your new and improved lashes. I always feel like this is sealing the deal because it brings everything together.

8. If the false lashes didn’t get applied directly right onto the lashes, a thin application of black liner or black matte eye shadow as a liner to cover and blend everything together. This also helps the glue dry more quickly.

9. Voila!  Now that you’re done, look in the mirror and admire! Bat those babies and practice your smile!

Good luck! Lesley

Must Have Brushes

Published July 2, 2014 by lesleyhope

Yellow everyone! I am alive and doing well. I have a VIDEO for ya! Must have makeup brushes! Yay! Everyone thinks differently and has different needs for their makeup so if you, for example, don’t wear foundation or don’t use eyeliner- don’t think you need the foundation brush I use or eyeliner brush. And always, I never push products so this is just what works for ME. Follow at your own speed 😉

Actually it’s kind of late. I have pictures uploaded and I will hyperlink all these badboys tomorrow. But here is my video for you all:

Color Crazy And My Hatred For Yellow

Published March 1, 2014 by lesleyhope

Hi guys! I started this post on Tuesday. And now it’s Friday. Sooo… yeah! I have been a sucky blogger this week. My apologies. I’ve got some great ideas for next week AND I’m taking my beautiful Canon back to Chicago (I’m in Michigan tonight) so I can start taking some good pictures and some videos.

Before I start I want everyone to think about one thing: your favorite color to wear on your eyes (as in eye liner)  and WHY. If anyone picks yellow, please leave a comment I’m dying to have any witnesses back up this ruthless, unforgiving, primary color that I despise so much.

20140225_222026

Tonight we’re talking about some colors. Eyeliner colors. YUM!!! Everyone has their favorite (black being the most common) and everyone has their least favorite (yellow anyone?). I’m going to preach my practice again in this post- not all colors work well alone BUT all colors can absolutely be worn and mixed together to create fabulous finishes (I still have yet to find a fit for yellow).

I swatched my Sephora 12 Hour Wear Waterproof Eye Pencils for you here:

20140225_221920

*Two things I learned about this picture- I need to greatly improve my swatching abilities and colors appear very differently with a flash in photos.*

Colors from left to right:

01- black lace (matte)- Blackest black. Comparable to UD’s Perversion.

35- romantic comedy (glitter)- Fun, bright pink. Great for a pop on a night out over a black liner.

31- purple stilettos (matte)- True violet. Looks crazier than it is. LOVE this color. I did a look below.

33- love affair (shimmer)- Dark plum with some pizzaz.

19- go for a ride (shimmer)- Forest green.

25- galaxy girl (glitter)- Deep bluish blackish teal.

04- starry sky (glitter)-  Darker silvery grey.
03- 5th Avenue (matte)- True matte grey. *one of my favorites*
13- tiramisu (matte)- Dark, chocolate brown.
14- taupe- just that, taupe.
11- Cookie Crunch (shimmer)- Goldish, amber brown.
06- Blonde Ambition (shimmer)- Very light golden beige
02 Flashy Silver- Very light and sheer silvery white.
I like these a lot, especially for their price point of $10. I was going to compare them to Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils ($20) but I have to put my snobby pants on and say the two brands are at two different levels. UD’s are just a step above Sephora’s even though I LOVE both. Sephora’s are super creamy which I generally like in an eyeliner but when it comes to some of the lighter colors, I have to use A LOT to get any sort of color base going on. UD’s  last a little longer and come in more matte finishes which I prefer when it comes to eyeliner but for half the price, I’ll get my fun colors from Sephora.

Now, another trick to eye liners that I like to live by- lining your waterline in a white or beige to make your eyes pop. The ONLY white and beige matte finishes I have found are OCC’s new eye liners and Rimmel London’s (*DRUGSTORE ALERT) waterproof eye pencils. Putting a light color in your waterline, and especially for people like myself that have smaller eyes, makes them pop and brightens them up.

That’s OCC’s Feathered in my waterline and Sephora’s Purple Stilettos below. Not too crazy huh?

In conclusion, I hope everyone has seen a little piece of my heaven that I look at everyday (those colors!) And I also hope that everyone has contemplated why yellow exists. Ok I’m getting out of hand, I just seriously don’t understand the color yellow. Is it because I never really liked Big Bird or that my beloved Spartan’s rival is Michigan? I don’t know, but I don’t care at this point. I am a color pheen but I believe everyone has the right to dislike one color out of all the colors.

Teaser to my next post…. (and now you know what I do on a Friday night)

20140228_231402

Super good pic, I know. My face has been bearing this bitter cold and it’s starting to wear on my skin. I’ve been experimenting with a few different face products including moisturizer, cleanser, masks, spot treatment, primer, foundation & even concealer. I’m trying to get the perfect combo but haven’t found it yet… TBD.

I’ll leave you with two beautiful nail colors by OPI and ESSIE

20140225_19292720140227_222724

Tickle my Francey on the left. Such a beautiful, classy mauve. One of my favorites I would say.

Mint Candy Apple on the right. It has more blue in person but it’s a light, fun springy teal.

Goodnight pretty people. XO Lesley Hope
